it's time for another pink saturday hosted by beverly. the picture below is so strange. my japanese magnolia is blooming again. this tree usually blooms only once a year during february. this happened after katrina too. my mom says that it's because the weather shocks the plants. i like to think it's God giving us some beauty and hope through the earth.

although these are not pink, i had one petunia and one impatiens flower bloom too. these plants were almost dead. so odd and so lovely.

slowing me down a bit-really a bummer. hurt my tendons and now my ankle is so swollen and walking was really hurtful so the doc gave me this for a couple(or 3 or 4) weeks. i feel like frankenstein!!

on to wonderfulness! my package for my vintage apron swap arrived from my partner marian of dreamweaver fame. so chock full of goodness and love. apron, pillow cover, fabric, magazine, etc., etc.

this little guy is sooo cute! my grand babies both loved him. and the fabric--i think it'll make a cute apron too!

aussie craft magazine

really great australian craft magazine which includes patterns. 

i think this may be my favorite. i love sewing with wool felt and these are darling. they are meant to represent hedgerows and the magazine gives the history of the hedgerows and their importance. the smaller one is a pincushion and the other a needlecase. all of this artists' creations were so well done and beautiful.
this idea would be so great in the spring. stuffed tools on a wall hanging meant for the little ones to play with. the little seed packets fit in a pocket. 

there are too many other crafts to share on one post but i'll add more at a later time. the "wish quilt" is really super too.

good morning pink ladies! i'm posting this early because i don't know if we'll have electricity later. it keeps going out and coming back on with the wind gusts from hurricane ike.

 i wanted to share a photo of my pink plates that i bought a few years after i was married. i fell in love with their delicacy and sweetness. the little pink glass spoons are from one of my best friends' mom. she passed away last august and i still miss her so much.

the bowl below was one that i painted at one of those pottery places in new orleans. my sisters and i went a few times and had so much fun. we also went for a wedding party and painted stuff for one of my friends. she chose the colors and we painted what we wanted. really cool. i don't know if it's open anymore.

this is a picture of my latest knitted hat for my niece for her birthday. the first one i made was too big. isn't my model absolutely darling?

this was the first time i did cables and i loved  making them.

one of my new house guests. he's so happy in the morning! today is his 8th month birthday.

my son and his family moved in with us after hurricane gustav damaged their house. i don't know how long they'll be here but it really doesn't matter. i'm just so grateful that we're all safe after the storm. some of us got together sunday night and had an early thanksgiving because we all fared out pretty well with minimum damages. please keep praying for the ones in the path of hurricane ike.

this is what so many trees look like now all over town and on the way home.
this building was being fixed up to house a wooden boat collection from nicholls state university. 

yeah!! the power is on in our house! we live a street away from the utility company so i think that helped. for katrina we didn't get it back too soon because one of our poles was down. little by little things are getting better. still no fresh meat or produce. i need to go ride around tomorrow to find milk at least. house full because the kids utilities aren't up yet. even though they have generators, it's hard to wash clothes and cook without gas. my sons and daughter had to go to work to help with the clean up but that's okay too. we're so lucky!!! lots of damage around town. so many trees down and utility poles cracked and broken. grand isle is unbelievable. we saw some pictures tonight on the internet. no one can get in yet because it's so bad-worse than katrina. it really scares me because this was just a category 2 storm. no one hurt though. another blessing. we did get mail today. last time it was months before it was right because the storm hit new orleans and our mail is routed through there. it's so strange how just a small turn of the storm can change different peoples lives. so many people up in north louisiana affected too. 

posting a happy photo before the storm. happy, happy babies! the kids came to watch the lsu game here because they couldn't catch it with their cable company. we tried to make it an ordinary day without too much worry until later. one kind of nice thing is the quietness without the t.v. don't know when that'll be fixed. 

thanks for all the prayers and good wishes. the long haul is ahead but the lucky ones like us just need to help everyone else. i know this post is backwards with pictures and all but i don't know how to fix it and i'm too tired anyway. that's my whining for tonight!

tropical update--we thought we were going to stay in the parish but sunday morning decided to leave and go up above baton rouge to a small town called slaughter(bad name) we lost electricity about 2 p.m. monday afternoon. the night wasn't too bad but the weather never seemed to stop. his grandmother's house lost some limbs from some back trees and a huge birch fell that was right out the back door. thank goodness it fell away from the house. about 9 a.m. tuesday morning E and i decided to go ride and find a cell connection. the weather was pretty bad and when we got back the water was rising on the road to the house really fast. we decided to pack up and go further up north to monroe because the weather reports stated that the band of rain was not going to let up for hours and the waters would continue to rise. we didn't want to get stranded with the baby. by the time we left the house the water on the road was up to the doors on my big ford van and my daughters suv had the exhaust under water. the first route we took we were forced to turn around and head the other way. we passed back in front of j's grandmothers house and the water was now about two feet deep. all the way up to monroe we saw twisted, broken trees and damaged houses. it seems the whole state of LA is torn up by this storm. almost every parish was hit and the power is out just about everywhere except the most northern part of the state. i'm so glad we came further up here with the kids. E  and my younger daughter and her bf are on their way home to start up the generators and assess the damage. reports are that Lafourche parish will be out of power from two to four weeks. for katrina we only lost power there for about 3 or 4 days. this will be worse because the damage starts so far up north. please pray for all those who had some damage and will suffer. i feel fortunate that we're all still able to go home to our house. see ya'll when i can. suesue
