For all my Pink Saturday friends: So sorry I missed the big birthday celebration at Beverly's with y'all. I couldn't get my posting to work for some reason last weekend. Hope you all had fun at the party. Here's a little pink (or actually a lot) for this weekend.

I repainted the inside of a food armoire from my mom to put in my studio. I absolutely love it! More storage space and such a happy color!!

The outside:

This piece of furniture was in my mom's house forever and I think she got it from her mom. It was in the dining room and she stored her Christmas green dishes and other holiday dishes in here. Her mom probably used it for it's original purpose which was to store food. A "garde manger" in French or literally a guarder of eats. It really does not translate well!

Pink Saturday

This week for Pink Saturday Beverly is sharing her studio with everyone. I wanted to share some vintage pink I have and also some pics of my studio. WARNING-there are quite a few photos to follow. My workspace is as full as I can make it and I've taken advantage of every nook and cranny!

The first two pictures I want to show y'all include some vintage lace, fabric pieces, and a beautiful embroidered cloth from my Mom. She was one of those famous recyclers, the Depression era kids. No matter how small a piece of lace or fabric was, it was carefully saved. Dresses were taken apart and remade. Every button, zipper, or hook was taken off and saved for future use. Nothing was thrown away unless it was totally beyond repair. How fortunate for those of us who love these things. I have bags of wonderful lace, fabric, fasteners, and various other pieces. 

Isn't this work stunning? So much time and love involved. Hopefully I can get most of the stains out and finish the edge to be able to use it.

Now for the overload of studio shots! This wall is just to the left of my sewing machine. The little dress was for my mom when she was younger and the longer gown was her wedding nightgown. She gave me the gown just a couple of months before she passed away. I plan of making some sachets from it for family members. The blue hat belonged to my younger sister who died from breast cancer. I love having these items close by because most days this is the room where I work.

 

This wonderful piece came from a shop in Ponchatula. It was a mailbox for a hotel and has a rolldown door. All of my patterns are stored in here along with tissue, bags, and various little items.

This built in shelf unit was a doorway leading to my bedroom. This room used to be for my girls and they kept their little treasures here. Now is full of old jars (from my Grandma) that hold my buttons and threads sorted by color (always had a thing for that). I also have some larger jars holding ribbons.

This closet holds some of my fabrics. I couldn't fit all of them so some are still in my old studio. I spray painted old freezer baskets in different colors and sorted fabric in those. I also have smaller pieces sorted by color in some plastic baskets. It's hard to imagine, but this cabinet measures about 6' by 4'.

My bulletin board on the sidewall left of my sewing machine. It has finished jewelry, some vintage buttons, an Anthropologie fabric stamp, and a few other items I love.

The bright colored dress form comes from Hobby Lobby and I have more finished products on her. The tin plaque of "LOVE" is from Papaya.

And of course, there's a special place for Georgia and Gabe to play when they're in here. I put out my little Singer (no needle or electricity, of course) and a little chalk board to draw on. I really would like to paint the little chairs I have from their parents in bright colors too.

Unbelievably, there are some spaces I left out. More drawers, another closet, scrapbook cabinet and a few other spaces. I hope you enjoyed my studio tour. The blog I'd like to highlight today is The Stone Rabbit. Her posts always bring a smile to my face. Hope you enjoy them too!

perle cotton jewels

another fabulous buy from purl in new york. i love all these jewel tones and plan to embroidery with these. just stuck them on a rack in my studio which i haven't even attached to a wall. still procrastinating finishing up-so much to do still!

studio update and blog win

it's been a while since i posted pics of my new studio. things have been busy, Easter, a community fair my family helps with, and my older son having foot surgery. a snapped a few shots for an update. i have to say i've been sewing in there and it's so lovely. i can open the front door and have a breeze and the light is phenomenal! the shelf unit below was built from a doorway that used to lead into my bedroom. when i had it closed off a friend built these shelves for the girls to display their knickknacks. perfect for my button and ribbon jars.

this is the hotel posting box that i bought so long ago. i had to wrest it from my hubby but replaced it with an antique rolltop desk. already full of patterns, wrapping stuff and other stuff (such as candy, for strength you know!)

i won these two embroidery patterns on bookwormbethie's blog. hopefully i'll have time to use them soon. i have some kitchen towels to work on and these patterns are perfect!! bethie's embroidery is wonderful!!
i'm watching the golden compass at paul's house-pretty interesting. 

the painting's done!

progress has been slow but sure!

my sweet sister painting the trim to help me out. "make sure you don't get my face!" since i understand the sentiment-i didn't.
cleaned the floor and it's pretty much ready for my the big furniture. now i have to convince eric to clean out the desk and antique hotel mailbox and give it back to me. don't worry, i bought him another desk (rolltop from pete) to replace it with. then i'll get my strong baby boy (and a couple of his friends bribed with food) to move it for me. 

green week, pink saturday and a makover

joined a green group this week started by shining egg and posted a few pictures to the flickr group there. i painted this bed years ago for my girls and it took weeks. when my younger daughter moved for college i repainted the red to pink (for pink saturday) and the bright green to lime. she used it all her four years there and now i need to pass it on to clear out the room. my great niece is interested since her room is lime green. i hope she wants it and the dresser that matches. 
now on to other news. this is why i need to clear the room!

this is my new studio in progress. (i should have taken before pics) i debated for quite a while about what color and feeling i wanted the room to have. finally decided on this aqua called "montego bay". it's pretty bright and happy and i hope will give me energy when i'm working in there.
the closet is huge and i'll add some shelving behind the big doors for my fabrics. the door to the side leads to the front porch but is painted shut right now. (the stuff on top is for the girls, mostly kt).
the little closet in the corner is divided in two. one side is the downflow for the central heating and the other side has all the girls' long gowns. maybe i could convince them to take them to their house one day and clear out some more space!
still a lot of work to be done, i'm both dreading and anticipating moving my stuff in here. i know  find some stuff i haven't seen in years! it may take months!! wish me luck.
